A Letter From The President...

The Horizon Institute of Paralegal Studies (HIPS) has specialized in training New Jersey Paralegals since 1978.  We look with pride on our graduates, who comprise a significant portion of the Paralegals practicing in New Jersey. They have made their mark in many areas of the law, as paralegals, supervisors, lecturers and administrators. Some have gone on to Law school and are practicing Attorneys.

When the school was originally founded, it was determined that our program would emphasize the practical aspects of each course in our curriculum. By stressing practicality, we have avoided excess theory, which, we feel, too often serves to make the learning process laborious. Our students prosper in learning in our eight month program, which is at the same time interesting and direct, and creates an entertaining educational experience.

We serve a cross section of the entire New Jersey Community. Our graduates are diverse in economic, educational and cultural back grounds and their success rate is a source of pride to us. In the past each graduate was asked to leave self addressed stamped envelopes for us to send them job opportunities. In recent years, many of them were employed before graduation and the envelopes are no longer necessary. Our students traditionally find good jobs, quickly. Many of the salaries reported to us are surprising, but understandably demonstrate the worth of our students and our program to the legal community we have served since 1978.

We offer rolling enrollment to our students and therefore we accept students year round on a starting date that they choose. This eliminates the need to wait for a semester start and is appreciated by students eagerly awaiting the opportunity to commence a new and rewarding career. We have experienced an increased demand for seats in our class recently, and if necessary, may introduce a wait list system. Therefore, we encourage potential students to apply as expeditiously as they can.

Our teachers are all practicing Attorneys and are chosen for their expertise, enthusiasm, ability to communicate and have good rapport with our student body. The classes are an exciting prelude to a career change that allows each student to reach their personal dreams.
